Without getting too technical: All cannabis plant strains fall into 3 basic categories. There are Indica plants, there are Sativa plants and there are Hybrid plants. Hybrid plants vary, but they are a blend of a Sativa plant and a Indica plant.

Cannabis plants have two (2) main active ingredients; One is THC or Tetrahydrocannabinol, and the other is known as CBD or Cannabidiol. There are no less than 85 cannabinoids found in marijuana, and over 400 natural compounds. THC is the ingredient that is known for getting people high, while CBD's (and other molecules) can affect you and your systems without the actual high associated with most street marijuana (versus medical marijuana).

Most strains available today can give you the exact amount of both these molecules within the strain itself. High Sativa strains are used by many in the daytime and high Indica strains are reserved for the evening. This is how many can narrow down what strains work well for their particular needs. This is also important (once discovered) in what plants you would grow to provide your own medication.
